Raanjhanaa: After the 2011 Winter hit 'Tanu Weds Manu", director Anand L. Rai comes up with a film that travels from the Colourful and Romantic Varanasi till the Political and Unforgiving Delhi and NO! This is not a usual love story. You can expect some "sensible love story" somewhere. The film is loaded with riveting moments and gripping twists, which manage to make you stick to your seats. The director and the writer (Himanshu Sharma) create some beautiful characters which , especially that of the lead played by K. Dhanush Raja, walk away with the applauds. But the main and only problem with the film is the screenplay, which is a bit draggy and doesn't properly makes the film transit from the innocence to the cold environment. The plus points of the film lie in the cinematography by N. Natarajan Subrahamaniam and Vishal Sinha is colourful, vibrant and beautiful. The dialogues by Himanshu Sharma are crackling and well written. Editing by Hemal Kothari is gripping and taut somewhere. DI work is good. Music Score by A R Rahman is riveting and his riveting tunes add gloss after a cold 2012, which brings life to the film. The lyrics by Irshad Kamil are beautiful. Now about the performances. One word about K. Dhanush Raja : EXCELLENT. He is the second one after Kamal Haasan to cut down the North and South divide with his excellent performance, which is riveting. He actually deserves a standing ovation for the film. Swara Bhaskar and Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub are great in the film, doing justice to their respective roles, the former outshining. Sonam Kapoor initially is ok, but later as the story develops, her performance starts getting matured. Abhay Deol is as usual great in the film. Vipin Sharma, Kumud Mishra, Arvind Gaur and rest are good. The narration by Rai is a bit slow, despite his colourful characters, vibrant colours and beautiful settings . Overall, a good weekend fare.
